Year 7

Term 1 our English program is Spooks Incorporated, in this Unit students explore the concepts of cultural beliefs, myths and legends and examine the ethics associated with socially unacceptable behaviour. Students discuss how different societies and cultures teach acceptable behaviours through story telling.

Term 2 is a novel study of Creature Teacher, by R.L Stine. In this unit, students explore the themes of reward and punishment and consider the issues surrounding competitiveness. Discussing a world where monsters are real means students need to demonstrate and understanding of adjectives, similes and metaphors to create images of scary and make-believe characters.

Term 3 explores picture books with an in-depth study of The Theefyspray by Paul Jennings. In this unit, student's skills, knowledge and understanding will be developed through the analysis of a variety of visual texts. Activities will focus upon responding to these texts and the decoding of the techniques used for visual literacy. Students will then compose their own text thereby expressing themselves and their relationships with others and their world.
