Twinlakes Centre

Twinlakes Centre

Twinlakes Centre (TLC) at Northlakes High School (NHS) has 3 classes comprising of 7 students providing special education services to students with a diagnosis. Our TLC faculty also includes our school funded ARC program. Students enrolled in these classes require indivualised and additonal support to meet their educational and social/emotional needs.

The program focusses on three pillars, Literacy, Numeracy and Emotional Literacy. We aim to increase the student’s self-awareness, self-regulation, social skills, empathy and motivation. We are a trauma informed program with a strong emphasis on student welfare designed to meet the specific learning needs of our students.

Students undertaking the program are equipped with the academic, vocational and social skills to be productive and engaged members of the community.

Curriculum

The TLC faculty works in partnership with mainstream teachers, parents, carers, and external organisations to develop wholistic and collaborative Individual Education Programs (IEP), Individual Transition Plans (ITP) and Behaviour Management Plans (BMP) for our students. The students are engaged in innovative, dynamic and purposeful programs and where possible are assessed in line with the mainstream outcomes. Life Skills Outcomes are employed only after consultation and agreement from all stakeholders.

Opportunities such as community access, school excursions, camps, work experience and mainstream transition programs allow students to build upon their numeracy, literacy and social skills in the educational and real-world settings. TLC staff are specialised educators providing individualised, differentiated programs in a nurturing, and inclusive environment.

The aim for our students is they will be prepared for future academic or vocational pathways. The program relies on continual ongoing collaboration and consultation between all relevant parties to ensure students achieve their personal goals and identified outcomes.
