Year 9 is the first of the elective Music courses and is designed to cater for the student who enjoys music and who wishes to develop his/her Musicality and instrumental skills.
Students will study 4 topics in Year 9:
- Music of another Culture.
- Australian Music.
- Baroque Music.
- Music of the Theatre.
The course is designed around 4 musical components which are:
- musicology.
- composition.
- listening.
- performance.
This course allows students to progress at their own level of ability whilst giving the student a broader understanding of Music and its role in society and culture.
Year 10 Music is designed to help students continue to develop their Musicality and instrumental techniques, through public performances that properly showcase their talent and musical development to date.
Performances are based on the topics studied in Year 10 and focus on ensemble techniques, musical interpretation and expression. Students will also undertake Composition tasks and an individual research project to be presented to their peers in the form of a Viva-Voce (an interactive presentation that can become an elective choice for the HSC).
Students will study 3 topics in Year 10:
- Popular Music
- Music for Large Ensembles.
- Music for TV, Film, Radio and Multimedia.
The course is designed around 4 musical components which are:
- musicology.
- composition.
- listening.
- performance.
This course helps students to develop performance, composition, listening and musicology skills. There are public performances and interactive student lead presentations. The successful completion of the Year 10 Music Course will better support a successful transition into the Senior Music Syllabus.
