Year 7-8

Students explore drawing to start with in their Visual Arts books. They look to themselves for inspiration and create drawings, paintings and clay busts. They study a range of artists, especially Australian, from Joy Hester to the Archibald Prize and the National Portrait Gallery and Ah Zien.

 

Aboriginal Art and Artists are studied and appreciated. Specific assessments are linked to Units of work including artists like Thancoupie, a famous Indigenous ceramicist and Lin Onus

 

Students make large scale paintings based on animals. Concepts begin to play a bigger part of artmaking. They look at issues and themes including Native vs Introduced animals.

 

Students design and make Creepy Creatures in 2D, 3D and 4D, with many students getting their first chance to use the photo editing software, Photoshop and filming with IMovie. Artist studies include Peter Booth, Francisco Goya, John Cox and Shaun Tan.

 

Year 8 is finished with a unit about The Urban Environment. They make prints, paintings and look at the work of Australian Artists; Howard Arkley, Reg Mombassa, and Jeffery Smart.
