In the human society and its environment (HSIE) faculty, we cover a vast range of subjects.
In Years 7 - 10 the two compulsory subjects are Geography and History. We also offer elective subjects in Aboriginal Studies, Commerce, Geography, History and International Studies.
Our Senior subjects include Aboriginal Studies, Ancient History, Business Services, Business Studies, Geography, Legal Studies, Modern History, Retail Studies, Society and Culture and Work Studies.
In Years 7 & 8 History is studied in Semester 1 (Terms 1 & 2) and Geography in Semester 2 (Terms 3 & 4) remaining with the same teacher for both subjects over the year.
In Years 9 & 10 Geography is studied in Semester 1 (Terms 1 & 2) and History in Semester 2 (Terms 3 & 4) remaining with the same teacher for both subjects over the year.
In Years 7- 10 each topic is presented using common resources and format found in a common PowerPoint available on the Google classrooms. The study is then individualised by the classroom teacher to provide an optimum learning experience for each student.
Each student receives an overview for each topic being studied which contains the syllabus dot points, a metalanguage list and a range of essential questions all of which can be used for revision for the exam.
All assessments, handouts, and resources can be found on the Google classrooms.
We welcome any contact with our community and extend a warm welcome to parents and carers to contact our faculty.

We at Northlakes High School would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land on which we work, learn, and grow, the Darkinjung and Awaba peoples. This is the shared lands of the people of the mountains and the people of the sea. We recognise the continued connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to the land and support future generations in maintaining this connection to their land and culture. We also pay respects to the Elders for they are our leaders, our story and knowledge sharers.
