RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY AND PERSONAL BEST
Positive Behaviour for Learning is a program supported by the Department of Education and is being implemented in many NSW Schools. Northlakes high school has begun to implement this program into our school environment to promote and maximize academic achievement and behavioural competence in 2013. It is school-wide strategies for helping all students achieve important social and learning goals. We know that when good behaviour and good teaching come together, our students will excel in their learning. Northlakes High school is proud to be a part of this exciting initiative.
As part of the PBL program, we have established several clear rules for the behaviour we expect in all areas of our school. we will explicitly teach those expectations to our students and reward them with GOTCHA Awards, PBL Achievers Awards and Bronze, Silver and Gold achiever Awards. As well as other rewards such as prizes, free concerts, movie afternoons. The expectations for all student behaviour will be made clear throughout our buildings and playground areas.
Our school expectations will specifically address behaviours in a positive manner to provide for a safer school environment and give more time for learning. We will apply consistent consequences and positive reinforcement for all students, By detailing expected behaviours and teaching these to students in a positive way, we will provide a common language for everyone in our school.
The PBL award system recognises student's positive behaviour through our school values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY AND PERSONAL BEST.
The awards are called "GOTCHA'S". They are a paper award which the teacher writes on according to school value the student demonstrates: Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best. Staff will be given an outline on positive behaviours for Gotcha's.
Teahers also enter Gotcha into Sentral, as a positive incident.
The student tears off the end section of the Gotcha and places it in a box in the library. This section will be the part which is drawn out.
Gotcha prize draw is to be held each week on each Friday morning at assembly by a member of the SRC, or a School leader.
Prizes: (each week)
1st draw will be a gift voucher from a local business, and 2nd draw will be a $5 canteen voucher.
The total of Gotcha's handed out to date is 397!!! Well done everyone
